The short story
Penpot lets you design websites, social graphics, app screens and mood boards right in the browser, and collaborate with others in real time. It is open source, so you can use the hosted version for free or have your own copy run on European servers.
Why we picked it
- Free for individuals, with no lock-in: your files use open web standards.
- Works in any browser — nothing to install.
- A genuine European answer to Figma.
Good to know
- Built for design work; for quick social posts, a template tool may be faster.
- Some advanced Figma plugins have no equivalent yet.
